Hunter Romance Writers
9 Comments Where would I be without my writer’s group?
I don’t know where I’d be without my writer’s group. Actually I do – in the same spot I’ve been much of my life, with a vague promise that “one day, I’m going to write a book”. I wrote snippets many times over the years, but that’s where it would stop.
In June 2010, I was checking some writing books out of the library (including one by Valerie Parv) and serendipitously, the librarian said to me “Do you know a writer’s group meets here?” I know it took me a few months to gather my courage to go along but since then, with the support and encouragement of my fabulous friends at the Hunter Romance Writers, my writing has gone from strength to strength. So too has my determination to succeed.
We had our final meeting for the year and Xmas lunch last week at Erin’s gorgeous new house. Five hours of eating and talking! We revisited our goals for last month, set new ones for the next month, thought about what we’d achieved through the year and what we plan to achieve next year. We discussed writing both specifically and generally. We talked books and general life stuff.
I honestly don’t think I have ever felt as comfortable in a group as I do with these ladies. Whether it’s to give me a kick up the bum or a hand of support, they get me! (Which probably means they’re as crazy as me, but that’s good, right?!)
I tips me lid to ya, ladies!!

We’re all a little crazy but that’s what makes us HRW. Have a Merry Christmas Kerrie. I love our group too! Xx
Hi Kerrie
It continually amazes me how much romance writers across the country, and also across the world, support each other.
I agree with you it’s pretty special. SA has a romance authors group too. My crit partner belongs and has invited me several times, but I’ve yet to go. Then in the new year we move interstate. So I’m not sure where my nearest writers group in SW West Australia might be. I’ll have to investigate.

Lily – I hope you’ve managed to hook up with a writer’s group – they’re invaluable!
Really, Kerrie, who is that person in the middle of the photo refusing to smile? That’s not a very festive attitude, is it?
I know, Deb, and she’s usually such a smilie person too ;p
Hi Kerrie,
What a lovely post and a great bunch of people.
I love your webpage too!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting, Cate
Oooh, your meetings come with a cook! (I can see someone busy busy with the Barbie in the background!!!!) A BBQ hero
Just our Xmas meeting, Jenn. Although where we meet normally has a cafe attached – and we have the chef pretty well trained there
He brings our coffees in for us and occasionally gives us freebies! (And he has a gorgeous accent *sigh*)
You’re welcome to call in if you’re ever down our way on the 3rd Saturday of the month!
