Last week was a week of author firsts for me.
On Thursday night, eight of the Bindarra Creek authors held a talk at Toronto library (Lake Macquarie, NSW) For many of us, including me, it was our first author talk. We had a great audience who were really engaged and asked great questions. We felt like we could have chatted all night! I have to admit I was pretty nervous to start with, but relaxed as the talk went on.
The library staff had also set up a lovely display for our talk! Thanks so much to Toronto library – they made us feel very welcome!
After the talk, I sold a couple of paperback copies of my books and was asked to sign them – my first book signing for someone who wasn’t friend or family! I really have to practice my author signature more 🙂
On Saturday night, I took the train down to Sydney for my first ARRA dinner. The Australian Romance Readers Awards dinner was held at the gorgeous Cello restaurant in the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. Built in the 1920s, its art-deco features have been restored to showcase a stunning building! My mind churned over with story ideas the whole time I was there (and I took quite a few photos!), so don’t be surprised to see it pop up in a story one day!
During the dinner, I won my first ARRA Award, taking home the Member’s Choice Best New Romance Author award for 2015! It was completely unexpected, but obviously I was thrilled. Thanks to ARRA for such a great night, and to all members who voted for me! Congrats to all the other winners and finalists. You can find the full list on the ARRA blog. (A big thanks to Katy Clymo for taking the photo of my stunned mullet face 🙂 )
And to top it off, I received my gorgeous new cover for Return to Jacaranda Avenue, out on May 15th by Escape Publishing.
It’s going to take a while to beat that for a week!!
