Finding my way

this-wayI’ve been a bit lost in my writing recently. I’m still in the early part of the story so I’m getting to know the characters and it’s been a hard slog. With school holidays etc, my time was fragmented and I’ve been feeling like I’m wandering in the bush without a map, compass or GPS! But finally, finally, with a liberal application of “bum glue”, and accountability with another writer friend, I seem to be getting somewhere, however slowly.

I actually sat down and wrote up what I did in April since I felt so unproductive – and when I looked at it all written down, I decided to cut myself some slack! Lots of Scout activities, lots of driving Teen around to various things – while it cuts into my writing time, it also adds lots of inspiration. It’s those life experiences that give me material and experiences to write! Plus I enjoy it – most of the time 🙂

At the end of April, I went on a 2-day hike in the Watagan State Forest with our Scout group. Despite some drizzly weather (and lots of leeches!), we had a fun time. There’s something quite satisfying about challenging yourself physically in a stunning location. Plus I don’t think there is anything that can possibly beat sitting around a campfire in the middle of the bush with like-minded people. I’m a simple person, with simple pleasures!

    Good on you, Kerrie.
Do cut yourself that bit of slack.
